RUNAWAY TRAIN BREWERY

Brewhouse. Saloon.

A D&H Brewing Co. Concept

In the 1800s, weary travelers could expect to find two iconic landmarks nestled in the Northern Pocono Mountain town of Honesdale, Pennsylvania: The D&H Railroad and Irving Cliff. Northeast Pennsylvania played an indispensable role in the growth of America, as The Delaware & Hudson Gravity Railroad (AKA “D&H Railroad”), along with the D&H Canal, transported needed anthracite coal though Honesdale to the larger population centers along the East Coast. In 1829, Honesdale forever became known as the Birthplace of the American Railroad once the Stourbridge Lion, the first commercial steam locomotive to debut in America, chugged on down the D&H tracks and into history.

Honesdale’s Irving Cliff was named after the famous writer, Washington Irving (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow & Rip Van Winkle) who visited Honesdale and wrote about its extraordinary beauty while gazing upon the nearly 400-foot cliff that towers over the town. In 1851, Irving Cliff Brewery opened. So named because the beer was stored in caves at the base of Irving Cliff, which maintained an ideal temperature for preserving the precious golden suds within.

Today, tucked in the downtown of historic Honesdale, PA, is a brewery born of boldness, lore and legend.

Runaway Train, a D&H Brewing Co. Concept, invites you to track back through time as a passenger on a special journey. Celebrate the rich history of the railroad while sipping the finest craft beers in Pennsylvania and dining alongside the legendary D&H railroad tracks. Hop aboard and taste a part of history, raise a glass to legacy, and behold an ‘XBeerience’ you will not soon forget!

This Runaway Train adventure has only just begun!

 Cheers… and Welcome Aboard!!
